CLRD has sent a letter
to each state Senator and Representative urging them to
resist proposed funding cuts to community-based human
services programs which support individuals with
disabilities and allow them to live independently.
Please contact your legislators today and ask them if
they have made the commitment to support Massachusetts
residents with disabilities and make sure that the
Commonwealth lives up to Olmstead's community
integration mandate.

Coalition for the Legal Rights of People with Disabilities |
|
|
|
|
|
CLRD is a broad
coalition of legal and other advocates, including
people with disabilities, united to promote
empowerment, liberation, and integration of all
people with disabilities in the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts. The Coalition seeks to preserve and
extend the supports for and rights of people with
disabilities through education, legal intervention,
and systematic advocacy. To accomplish these goals,
CLRD -
- Pursues law reform by
adopting position statements, advocating for administrative
change, drafting and lobbying for legislation, and pursuing
litigation; and
- Provides advocates with a
source of support and renewal through the exchange of
information and provision of assistance and encouragement.

The votes are in and it's official!
The bills/issues which will be CLRD legislative
priorities for the coming session are aversives
legislation, 5 Fundamental Rights/Fresh Air and
managed care. These three items received the most
votes from CLRD members and we will continue to work
on them in the new session.
Other bills and issues
on the CLRD list are worthy of everyone's support
and CLRD members should ask for support from CLRD as
needed. Support activities could include signing on
to letters, publicizing events on the CLRD listserv,
discussing bills at CLRD meetings et cetera. We were
excited to see how many excellent bills are being
put forward by the disability community and look
forward to our continuing collaboration with your
groups
